Image Enhancement
The Image Enhancement options allow removing various defects of the image and improve its quality.
The following operations are available.
- Fringe Removal - this operation detects chromatic aberration artifacts appeared during color scanning and removes them.
Fringe Removal is designed to minimize the appearance of a "chromatic aberration", the phenomenon which is caused by sampling timing difference of Red, Green and Blue sensors when the document is scanned. It's possible to apply the Fringe Removal to color images only.
- Background Removal - this operation whitens the image background.
This option allows you to prepare for the OCR of the images containing the text over picture or color background. Use the slider or spinbox control to choose measure of whitening. Use the Auto check box to select the most optimal level for the given image automatically.
- Descreen - this operation detects halftone regions in the image and removes moire effect.
Descreen is designed to minimize the appearance of unsightly interference patterns (moire patterns) which may occur in your image file when scanning the original documents created by a halftone process. With Descreen you can minimize the transfer of moire patterns into your image file and avoid the checkered, banded or dotted appearance.
- Auto exposure - this operation automatically evaluates the optimal level of exposure correction and applies the correction. Exposure correction is an image quality correction which highlights the extremely darkened parts of the image and also darkens overexposed parts of the image in order to expose the details.
- Auto color balance - this operation evaluates the optimal level of color balance correction and applies the correction.
Note: When one or more adjustment or enhancement options are turned on, every scanned image is transformed with all selected operations applied sequentially.
